We spotted these interesting Gourmet Hot Dogs this past weekend over at Fairfax Fare at the Studios. We’ve ordered the Barbecue Pork and Coleslaw dog at Casey’s Corner at Magic Kingdom before, so thought we’d give a different one a try. We decided on the Macaroni and Cheese with Truffle Oil.
We went into this tasting with fairly high hopes. Two childhood staples, often served together, combined in a single bite, and covered in bacon.
Unfortunately, the dog was only good in concept. Its execution was poor. The bun was a bit dry, falling apart under the weight of the dog and macaroni. The macaroni and cheese itself was bland and a bit grainy (much like their buffet mac & cheese), and the noodles themselves were too thick and undercooked. And as for the truffle oil, there was not so much as a hint. We couldn’t finish it.
While this dog was a loss in our book, it won’t deter us from trying the others available. We’ll still have to see if the Barbecue Pork dog is as good as the one we had at Casey’s, and Matt is interested in the Burrito Dog as well. I’m not sure how long these dogs have been offered, but we’ll certainly check in to see if the dogs are still around on our next trip to the Studios.
