Kimonos

Last week, Matt and I were in the mood for some sushi, so we decided to head over to the Swan and pay Kimonos a visit. We had completed a lap around F&W, so we just needed a few items to fill us up for dinner. We arrived and took a seat at the sushi bar. We have a favorite Japanese restaurant in Hunter’s Creek, Mikado, so we ordered a few items we typically order there for comparison.

Matt started with a bowl of Miso Soup, and it was as anyone would expect it to be.

Since he’s a fan of Spider Rolls, he ordered one as well as two piece of Maguro (Tuna) Nigiri. The Spider Roll seemed to have a bit more filling and was a little larger than the one from Mikado, and it tasted great, too. The tuna was also nicely prepared and he was given a fairly large portion of fish. I’ve often seen it where it barely covers the rice. This looked more elegant.

I had to get something with eel as it’s one of my favorite foods, so decided to keep it simple with Unagi (Eel) Sashimi. I liked the presentation as the meat was butterflied. From my recollection, I’ve never had it served this way; it’s always sliced on a bias from one side of the eel. It was grilled well with slight caramelization, and the meat melted away.

Since I wanted to try something a little different, I ordered their Tempura Udon Soup. The dish had its strengths, such as the tempura remained crisp even after having sat in the broth for a few minutes, and I really enjoyed the mushrooms. The asparagus had cooked perfectly as well. Otherwise, it was a bit one-note. I’m much more of a fan of Kitsune Udon, with its fried tofu and kamaboko.

We had a nice experience at Kimonos and would recommend it as a suitable sushi option at WDW. The quality of the food was good, and the prices were reasonable considering the type of food, in a hotel, on Disney property. It would probably cost you more in gas to seek out a restaurant off property. They are on par with Tokyo Dining in Epcot, and you don’t need park admission to dine there.
