Last Saturday there was a Keg Tapping at Big River Grille for their new Winter’s Nip Holiday Bock beer. Although we didn’t make it over at the start of the tapping, we did manage to stop by to give it a try before rushing off to Suvir Saran’s Culinary Demonstration.
The beer was served in these cute mugs. It was a dark Bock, smooth and a bit sweet. It was a bit too sweet to me, but I still enjoyed it; it was a definite a sipping beer. Matt enjoyed it more than I did, but he was hoping for some nutmeg/holiday spice flavor added to it. I mentioned that it would have seemed a little bit gimmicky. I likened it to an Oktoberfest beer that relies heavily on pumpkin pie spices instead of making a quality beer. He understood my point, but still would have liked a hint of extra flavor.
We were both glad we tried the beer, and while Matt wouldn’t be opposed to ordering it again during the season, I’ll probably stick to Gadzooks, Steamboat, or Rocket Red.
Have you had a chance to try Winter’s Nip yet? If so, what did you think of it? If not, is it something you want to try?

I love that mug! Looks delicious… winter beers are some of my favorites. We so tried to get in here this past weekend but it was impossible. The wait was really long which I found surprising. Oh well, next time!
The mug is so cute! I’ve heard those tapping ceremonies can get insane. It started at 2pm and we didn’t get there until a little after 4. I had been inside just to scope it out about 15 minutes earlier at it was standing room only. By the time Matt met up with me, we were able to score some seats.
