Snacks from Germany: Lorenz Pomsticks – Sour Cream

One of my favorite parts of exploring the countries at Epcot is looking for interesting snacks that I can take home to try. I find this happens mostly in Japan, although I’m no stranger to Mexico or Canada. While in Germany this past weekend, a couple of savory items caught my eye while looking around Süssigkeiten. Today we’ll be reviewing Lorenz Pomticks – Sour Cream flavor.

Süssigkeiten sold a plain “Salted” version, but I thought these might be a little too plain. The Sour Cream could prove to be a more interested flavor. Looking over the ingredients, there was onion powder as well, so these could be a good comparison to sour cream and onion flavors we find here.

Like other fried potato snacks, these aren’t the healthiest things to be eating.

I opened the bag and saw the sticks had green specks of herbs. They had a firmer crunch than the shoestring variety I remember enjoying from the miniature cans years ago. While they do have a similar flavor to a sour cream and onion chip, the sour cream flavor is more prominent.

While delicious just snacking on these right out of the bag, I think they would be interesting on a burger or salad (yes, let’s take a healthy salad and put fried potatoes on it :) ). I’m sure the plain version is tasty, but I’m glad I went with the Sour Cream. I thought these were a step up from the type I grew up with, with better texture and flavor. If you spot these while you’re at the Germany pavilion, they’re worth a try!
