When I was a kid, Backlot Express was my favorite place to eat at the Studios. It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve eaten here. I use it more of a place to grab a beer and rest while listening to the nearby Indy stunt show. Even though the angus burgers have been out for quite some time, I wanted to give the 1/3 lb Angus Onion Straw Bacon Cheeseburger with fries ($9.79). I’ve had a similar version at Pecos Bill’s at the Magic Kingdom, and felt it was a decent them park quick service burger.
There is a bit of char on the burger, and the cheese is placed beneath the patty, which aided in its melting. The bacon had a decent thickness and saltiness, and was cooked well enough that it wasn’t underdone and rubbery or overdone and crumbly. The veggies were fresh as well, but the onion straws ended up being a bit soggy, and the batter started to come off, leaving up with just the onion flavor.
We cut the burger in half to split, but I’m not a fan of the buns they use, so I nixed it and ate the remaining ingredients with a fork and knife. Since there was little mayonnaise-based sauce from the top bun, I grabbed some mustard for myself and some ketchup for Matt. The burger patty was still juicy (as juicy as one of those thin patties can be), so we were happy. We ate a few of their standard fries.
If I find myself wanting a quick service burger at the Studios or am with a group that wants a quick lunch, I’d certainly order it again. I like the one from Pecos Bill’s a bit better based on its use of heartier onion rings and addition of barbecue sauce (and its infamous toppings bar!), but Backlot Express fits the bill for a quick, decent burger.
Have you tried this or any of the other angus burgers at WDW? What do you think of them?

No I have not. But I now want to! Fwiw, I really like your blog and your choice of places to eat and drink! Thanks for that and cheers!
Thank you and Cheers!
I had one at the ABC place in Hollywood Studios a couple of weeks ago but it came with some shrimp skewered on top. Yum, those were good and I got my husbands, too b/c he has to eat gluten free. I took about two bites with the bun and hated it, so I took the top bun off (it’s like 2 inches thick!) and finished it like that – it was good! They need to get new buns – no one wants a thick dry bun with their burger!
