Studio Catering Co.: Marble Cheesecake

Nestled between Streets of America and Mickey Avenue at Hollywood Studios is the large, open air quick service restaurant Studio Catering Co. I’ll be honest in saying that it’s not a favorite place for me at which to eat. In fact, it’s been a VERY long time since I’ve eaten there, dating back to the early 90s.

It’s not that their menu is really that bad sounding. I get the “theme” of the place. There are just so many great table service restaurants in the park that I’d prefer to visit. I don’t think Buffalo Chicken Sandwich here can hold a candle to Aunt Liz’s Golden Fried Chicken at 50′s Prime Time Cafe. Also, especially in the summer, I look forward to escaping the heat and cooling off when I’m eating a meal.

Since I was passing though, I did take a look at the menu and decided to order one of their desserts. I typically am a fan of cheesecake, so I figured I would try their Marble Cheesecake ($3.59). After trying the Chocolate Mousse a few weeks ago at ABC Commissary, I’m more inclined to give these prepackaged desserts a try. Note: This cheesecake is also available at Backlot Express.

At first glance, you can see the cheesecake isn’t overly “marbled.” I’m fine with that, as I like plain cheesecake.

The texture is quite crumbly, and more chocolate pockets appeared as I made my way through the cup. There was some graham cracker crust as the bottom, but it was moist and didn’t provide any crunch. Apart from the flavor, it was difficult to discern it from the cheesecake itself, especially the chocolate as their colors were the same.

By true cheesecake standards, this is far from top notch. But if you’re looking for a cool dessert and cheesecake-y flavor, it does fit the bill. It’s not something I’d go out of my way for, but it’s certainly an option I wouldn’t be opposed to ordering again.

Have you tried the Marble Cheesecake? What did you think of it?

  1. I have tried both the cheesecake and the chocolate mousse. And I agree with you. They are far from being the best desserts, but they’re pretty good when you need a quick snack. I remember that they had other desserts like these and they seemed to be good too.

  2. Yes, the quick service restaurants in the parks typically offer two prepackaged desserts, such as Carrot Cake or even a Key Lime Mousse. They’re just the right size for something sweet after a meal!

  3. At $3.59 though I would skip all the packaged cup desserts if I wasn’t on a DDP. I’d rather have some ice cream! :)

  4. I’ve never used DDP as when I stay on property, I typically have either a cast member or passholder discount on the room. As an add on, it’s not really worth it for me. Tables in Wonderland works out much better as a local. I do know the counter service desserts are “mid-range’ when it comes to price/dollar value. More bang for your buck can definitely be found elsewhere! :)
