During the day, Kusafiri in the Harambe Village of Animal Kingdom serves coffee and baked goods. For the Sundowner Celebration, however, it offers Mandiza African Donuts.
Six of the donuts come in an order for $4.99. They arrive hot and freshly shaken in a bag of powdered sugar.
The donuts are cake-like in consistency, with a golden brown, slightly thick outer crust which gives way to a soft interior. These are not the common donut holes you buy at a chain donut shop.
Each donut yielded 3-4 bites. The powdered sugar was a bit messy, as expected, but otherwise these tasted quite good. The fresh donuts warranted the price, and it was a good size for sharing. I was really hoping for some spices or flavors added to the batter or mixed with the powdered sugar to push this beyond what in all honesty was a relatively basic donut. It was an item that didn’t seem to embrace the whole Sundowner Celebration theme.
Have you been to Sundowner Celebration and tried the Mandiza African Donuts? Were they what you expected, or were you anticipating more?

They look good! When you started describing them I was picturing spiced zeppole. It’s disappointing that they were more like a plain doughnut. I too would have expected something a little more interesting.
Exactly – That’s what I was anticipating too. Heck, even a touch of cinnamon or something would have been nice!
