Chocolate and Oreo Topped Pretzel Rod

Found in confectionery shops in parks and at Downtown Disney, one of the snacks that has been around for quite some time are chocolate coated pretzels, decorated with cookie or candy bits, sprinkles, or simply more chocolate drizzles. I’ve never had one, probably because their $4.99 price tag is a bit steep for a store-bought pretzel coated in more store bought treats. In an effort to try things I haven’t before, I figured I might as well order one. Since Oreos have been on my mind lately with press coverage of their 100th Anniversary, why not celebrate by getting one of the pretzels dipped in chocolate and crushed Oreos?

There’s a healthy coating of both chocolate and cookies on the pretzel. It seemed like a lot of sweet, but I hoped the size of the pretzel would help balance out the flavor with its saltiness. Unlike the chocolate coated pretzel minis sold in a bag as the supermarket, I was looking for a much better salty-sweet ratio.

Fortunately, the balance I was looking for was achieved. The Oreos weren’t too densely packed onto the chocolate, and the cream filling helped to lighten the chocolate cookie wafers an underlying coating of chocolate (of which there was just enough to hold everything together). I also like the difference in textures between the slightly softened cookie crumbs and crispy pretzel.

Overall, the treat was better than I expected, but I sill think it’s a bit overpriced. I’d rather get a Topped Crisp Rice Mickey Treat for the same price and a LOT more Disney fun!

Which pretzel combination would you choose or create?

  1. I hear the coating is a lot thicker when you have them made to order at Goofy’s Candy Kitchen – they might be a better value there?

  2. I would imagine the “fresh made” ones have more chocolate one them. This is one that was pre-made in the display case at Candy Cauldron. More chocolate & toppings may be a better value than the one I had, but I still think I’d stick with one of the Crispy Treat Mickeys for the most bang for my buck! But hey, sometimes you need that salty, pretzel-y goodness to balance out the sweet! :)
