Yes, “scorn.” These snacks caught my attention since they were familiar looking like crunchy Cheetos (a snack of which we’ve been on a bit of a kick at home). It was also a snack that interested Matt, which was is always good since I tend to purchase some of the more odd items from Mitsukoshi in Epcot.
There weren’t any clues as to what to expect in terms of spiciness, nor notes of any element of smokiness.
I opened the bag and they didn’t have much “BBQ” scent that we’re used to smelling here in the States. They looked just like Cheetos out of the bag with a light dusting of seasoning.
The texture was identical to Cheetos with a nice crunch, but they had that very distinct sweet corn flavor that Japanese corn snacks tend to have. There was some saltiness, but overall really didn’t have an American BBQ flavor I was hoping to find.
Despite the sweetness, it’s a snack that is enjoyable and great for snacking on with a beer. We’ll definitely finish the bag, but I don’t think I’d pick up another.
Have you tried “Scorn” snacks, or do they sound like something you might try?

If my grandpas and grandmas (who were Japanese) were still around, they would NOT be happy with the amount of Japanese that I can actually read… Anyways… with the little I know, one key word on flavor that I was able to identity was “umami”… Japanese cuisine has a lot of that if you are familiar with it…
I have not tried this specific item but have tried some other BBQ ones… not a big fan…
Some letters I am quick to pick out, but I’ve totally slacked on keeping up with studying!
Yeast Extract Powder (another form of MSG) and the MSG listed on the ingredients list are what bring that “umami” flavor. I find the flavor on Japanese potato chips okay, but here, that sweet corn flavor overpowers it a bit.
You both have a headstart over me! I am absolutely clueless on what’s in any of the bagged goodies! I have to rely on the pictures on the front and trying to remember reviews that people post! Let me just say that has let me in for some tastings that weren’t the most pleasant!!!
I sometimes don’t know what I’m going to get, like the time I bought the Chinese snack with almost NO clues!
