Casey’s Corner: Corn Dog Nuggets

Many people tout Casey’s Corner as a favorite quick service spot in Magic Kingdom. To me, their plain hot dogs are a no-go for me. (In fact, I saw a woman ask for two new dogs as the ones she received did not look appetizing to her. The new ones looked exactly the same…). While their topped dogs help cover up the sub-par dog that’s underneath, I find the Corn Dog Nuggets to be a much more appetizing option and a better value.

The golden-fried nuggets are served in a paper cup, and while I neglected to count (they’re so convenient to eat!), there were around 12 in the serving.

The nuggets have a nice batter-to-mini-dog ratio, which a crispy crust leading way to a soft, slight sweet corn batter, and salty hot dog in the middle. I tried them with the cheese, but to me, the flavors just didn’t meld well. I liked them dipped in mustard and a bit of sauerkraut, but they were delicious on their own. If you enjoy them plain, they make a great snack for walking and sharing, and the $4.49 price tag is a good deal.

Here’s a look at two of their topped dogs as well, just in case you’re interested! ;)

The Halloween cups are out and about, too! Here is a look at the design. They gave me a cup filled with ice since the bottled water I ordered wasn’t quite icy-cold yet. Kind of defeats the purpose of bottled water, but it was nice to have it offered without asking. It did indeed get used.

So what do you order from Casey’s Corner? Do you stick with a plain dog and the toppings bar, the topped dogs, or the nuggets? Let us know your favorite picks!

  1. I agree with you on the plain dogs. They don’t have anything special and I think I ordered one once and never ever again… Now, the nuggets are really good! The only thing missing for me is some sort of container that would allow me to hold – with one hand – the nuggets and the sauce(s)… since there are very few seating options in the area… (Disney— hint hint)… One fast food chain (maybe Burger King) has a chicken nugget packaging that has a flap that holds the sauce container…

And those Halloween cups are really cool!

  2. I agree with a container for sauce. They had given me a drink tray for the cup, bottled water, and cup of nuggets, and there was room for a few condiment cups. It still would have been cumbersome to navigate with the tray, but at least it was somewhat contained for easier standing and snacking!

  3. Though I haven’t been to Casey’s Corner in years, we almost always stopped there when I was a kid and was visiting WDW with my parents. I’ve never been a huge fan of plain hot dogs, and even as an adult, I always opt for corn dogs or corn dog nuggets! And it’s surprising how people respond to it — sometimes disdainfully, like I’m eating “kid food.” So hot dogs in delicious corn batter are kid food, but a hot dog isn’t?! So strange.

And I love those Halloween cups! So fun. I’ve never been to Disney around this particular holiday, I should really look into changing that…

  4. I barely remember going to Casey’s as a kid, as it seemed we always went to Cosmic Ray’s (then Tomorrowland Terrace). I enjoy the corn dogs over the plain ones at the parks, even though I can buy a box of them at the supermarket (yup, WDW uses State Fair brand when I’ve seen the boxes). I think the nuggets are a different brand though. And if I want to enjoy “kid food” when I’m at DISNEY WORLD, so be it! :D

  5. “Kid food” is always awesome! Especially when you are not too hungry!

  6. I have always wanted to know if the corn dog nuggets were all beef. I don’t eat pork, so we could only try them if they were made with beef.

  7. I don’t believe they are. They are likely a combination of pork, poultry and beef. You might be able to ask for a list of ingredients, but I would be wary of taking a CM’s word. Sometimes items change, and they might not have the most current information.

  8. I believe the regular hot dogs are a combination of poultry and beef (no pork, according to what I’ve heard). I have no idea whether the same is true for the nuggets, however.

I haven’t been to Casey’s in years, and in the past when I have stopped in it’s only been for a Coke. I miss the “good old days” when they had flavored syrups and I could get a cloyingly sweet cherry or vanilla Coke. Were I to stop in for a bite, however, it would definitely be for corn dog nuggets. My dipping condiment of choice? Plastic cheese!

  9. Yes, the regular hot dogs are a beef & chicken blend. I think the emphasis is on the chicken, giving them an odd, spongy texture. Based on how uniform the nuggets are, they are most likely a frozen, mass produced product, but I’m not sure if they’re State Fair brand like the regular corn dogs sold around property. I’ll have to pick up a box at the store to check them out.

I did try the Chicago-Style and Barbecue Slaw dogs’ toppings help mask the icky dog underneath, but I’ll likely only get the nuggets at Caseys from here on out. I never got a soda there with the syrups. Considering I’ve pretty much only had diet soda my whole life, I don’t think I could handle the sweetness of the syrups! Since beverage options, both alcoholic and non, are appearing to get a little more thought recently, we can only hope they bring back the simple nicety of the syrups!

  10. I eat mine with some of that delicious cheese sauce … and onions!! A double dip: http://www.mouseonthemind.com/caseys-nuggets/

  11. I was going to give them a try that way, but I wasn’t digging the cheese sauce with them. Perhaps it was because the cheese sauce was only lukewarm. I’m very particular with toppings, and deep down, I’m a mustard and sauerkraut purist. ;)

  12. Different strokes for different folks! We don’t all have to like the same things. : )

  13. Exactly! I know Matt thinks my favorites are disgusting. :)

  14. I am pleased with the Halloween cups. I heard they cut back on the printed napkins and switched to plain. That plus all the cupcakes starting to lose their fillings made me worried Disney was cutting back too much :(

  15. I know what you mean. I rarely buy cupcakes but come on! Don’t cut back on the few cents that filling costs!

  16. I’ve always wanted to try Caseys but I never got around to it… I use to work in Candy Cauldron and people would switch their apples for different ones even though they all look the same… we would just let them. I’ll never figure out what the difference to them was lol!

  17. How funny! I guess some people are particular over how high the sugar goes up the side of the apple, or how many candy polka dots are on Minnie’s dress. ;) Thank you for sharing your experience! :)

  18. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Casey’s and ironically the last time I was there I had the corn dog nuggets, never had their regular hot dogs. I’m going to have to go back there again and try the cheese and onion thing, although I’m like you Sarah, I usually just do mustard and sauerkraut on my dogs. :-)

  19. If you’ve never had the regular hot dogs, I would stay away (unless you were wanting to try one of the topped ones, which helps!). Next time I get the nuggets, I will have to try the cheese again along with the onions. Hopefully the cheese is piping hot next time!
