It had been several months since ordering from one of my favorite places on property to get a quick sandwich – Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney Marketplace. As of this past weekend, their Limited Time Only sandwich was still the Chipotle Chicken Avocado which we tried back in April (hopefully we’ll see a new one out soon!). I definitely wanted to try a new (to me) sandwich, and I’m a fan of Italian sandwiches, so I wanted to give their version a try.
The Italian ($5.99) features Salami, Capicola, Roasted Ham, Mortadella, Zesty Italian Dressing, Mozzarella & Roma Tomatoes. Peppers are optional, and I opted against. Their sandwiches are toasted, wrapped, and served ready to go. I grabbed a table outside to enjoy half the sandwich just before the rain started pouring, and I wrapped the second half back up to bring home for Matt to try.
The Italian dressing absorbed slightly into the bread, which is really one of the highlights of their sandwiches. They have a buttery, crispy exterior and a soft interior, yet are hearty enough that they don’t get soggy or weighted down by the ingredients tucked inside. The combination of the salty meats, just-melted mozzarella, and fresh Roma tomatoes worked together for a well balanced flavor and textural combination.
When Matt saw the Earl of Sandwich bag, he asked which type I bought. I told him Italian, and he made a face. I told him that it wasn’t your typical Italian sub and to give it a try. Verdict? “Wow, this is really, really good.”
I’d certainly order the Italian from Earl of Sandwich again, but there are still several more sandwiches that I have my eyes on! Let us know your favorites!

I have tried the Italian and would definitely order it again.
My favorite has to be the “Cannonballs”, their meatball sandwich… it is a simple meatball sandwich, but I think it is really good!
I almost ordered the Cannonballs myself! I like meatball sandwiches, and it also sounds like one Matt would love, too. I might have to move it to the top of my “try next” list.
I haven’t tried the Italian although this does look good. My favorite was the Frenchie (ham and brie) which they took off a long time ago.
The Caprese is pretty good as well.
The Frenchie sounds delicious! I’ll have to see about making one at home soon.
I wish I had the recipe for their bread, it totally makes the sandwich.
I know – I must find a copy at version at least so I can make it at home!
Earl of Sandwich is fabulous! Their Veggie is absolutely wonderful!
That sounds like a great option – I love feta and cucumber!
I go to the one in NYC. It is BEYOND YUM.
Italian is my favorite i get one every time i go to disney world XD
shibi – Glad to hear there’s another fan out there!
