Yesterday Matt and I was fortunate enough to attend a Cast Member preview of New Fantasyland. Be Our Guest restaurant was open for pictures, but Gaston’s Tavern was serving food. Of course, we had to get a taste!
A menu outside hints at the availabilities within.
We wanted to try the Cinnamon Roll to see how it compares to the one served at Main Street Bakery. Size-wise, it can hold its own, but there’s just not as much frosting!
The cinnamon roll was delicious, but I think Main Street Bakery’s wins this battle.
The Roasted Pork Shank, on the other hand, is awesome! The meat is incredibly fall-off-the-bone tender, and the fat melts away.
The value is definitely there, as one person eating this alone will feel full. I’ll take this over a Turkey Leg any day!
And we HAD to get LeFou’s Brew in the souvenir mugs. The frozen apple juice drink was quite sweet at first, but didn’t seem so intense after a few sips. There’s certainly a novelty in trying the drink once, but I don’t see myself shelling out $4.49 (without the souvenir cup) each visit. Perhaps on a hot summer day I might change my mind, though!
What are you looking forward to trying when Gaston’s Tavern officially opens?

Thanks for the review of the two items I wanted to try. The pork shank doesn’t look quite as excessive as a turkey leg – glad to hear it was good! Those cinnamon rolls are as big as a kid’s head.
I think we’ll get to try this when I go with my cast member friends on Wednesday. I definitely want to try the drink but don’t know if I’ll convince them to try the pork shank. Especially since we’re hitting The Wave at 5, LOL.
Dawn – I’ll definitely be ordering the pork shank again. It reminded me of a Sunday dinner and didn’t taste like a huge salt bomb. The cinnamon rolls were good and worth a try, but I do think Main Street’s are better.
Cherry – If you can convince them to try the pork shank, it’s a good size for sharing. Three of us snacked on it just to try it (we weren’t starving), but managed to put an okay dent in it.
The shank looks really good. I think I’d try that.
I definitely want to try the drink and I’m all for souvenir cups… although I wish they would’ve printed the restaurant’s name on them instead of the pictures…
The name would have been a nice touch, but this way you will be able to buy them in the gift shop easier should they decide to do so. The Light Up Souvenir Goblets that will be served with Fruit Punch or Lemonade at the Table Service for Be Our Guest ($18.99) can be bought in the gift shop for $15.95.
Oh my, I cannot wait to devour this wonderful piece of meat, along with a cinnamon roll and Lafou’s Brew in December. Yum.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy every bite and sip! The park has needed some fresh ideas for food.
I totally agree with both parts of that statement! By the way, I just discovered this blog and you know what? It’s awesome! My new favorite!
Thank you so much!
We got to enjoy Gastons a few weeks ago during a MNSSHP and now I can’t stop wanting a Le Fou! Anybody got a recipe out there?
Got to try the pork shank, cinnamon roll and Le Fou’s brew last Wednesday. The pork shank was great, tender, very flavorful, and extremely easy to break apart and share. While I’m not a major frosting person, I agree that the roll could use a little more than is given but I have to say I wasn’t a major fan of the brew. Seriously sweet, even my best friend who loves candy and sugar couldn’t tolerate the level of sweetness. Maybe we ended up with more syrup than normal, I don’t know, but it was a serious sugar bomb.
The brew is very sweet, but I found it somewhere between the Raspberry Lemonade Slush, which had a sweet kick at first that seemed to mellow out, and the Liberty Swirl Slush, which was tooth-numbingly sweet. Glad you got to try the Cinnamon Roll and Roasted Pork Shank and enjoyed them, though!
As a passholder I previewed on 11/8. The pork shank is amazing! I ordered one and my honey ordered the chocolate croissant. Guess what? One bite of my pork shank and he bought one for himself. Then came a cinnamon roll…. Yummy! Don’t miss the shank it beats out the turkey leg any day.
Considering I thing the turkey leg is absolutely disgusting, I will happily order the pork shank any day of the week!
I had lefrous brew in November and looooooooooooooved it. My first few sips weren’t to gat because it is sooooooooooo. After a few sips it became less sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I personally thought it was amazing and so did the rest of my family. I loved it so much that I’ve been trying to recreate it!!!!!!!!!!!!
The sweetness does subside, that’s for sure! Good luck in recreating it! I wonder if putting apple juice in an ice cream machine might help to make the slushy part. I recall doing similar things several years ago!
Le fou’s brew is one awesome drink….LOVE IT
We were at Magic Kingdom after 1am last week for Magic Hours and there was absolutely nowhere to eat except Gaston’s Tavern. We really got lucky! My husband, kids and I shared two of the pork shanks and it was plenty for all of us to eat. It was probably the cheapest meal we had all week! & bonus…they were sooooo tasty!
Those pork shanks are a delicious value!
