Hollywood Studios Treasure Chest with Chocolate Cupcake

A few weeks ago, the Hollywood Studios released this sweet treat, a Chocolate Cupcake tucked inside a plastic Treasure Chest! The chests have been used in the past by Disney for mini celebration cakes that came with some matching trinkets. This time around, they are celebrating the newly opened Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow. They can be found at many counter service locations throughout the park and cost $8.99. I’m not one to get excited for cupcakes, but I couldn’t resist the gimmicky chest! And I of course had to go with the more “Pirates of the Caribbean” themed brown chest as opposed to the pink one that has a more feminine design. It would stick out like a sore thumb in our house!

The chest is adorned with scenes from the PotC attractions on both coasts. More of that later – let’s get snacking!

Inside the chest you will find chocolate cupcake with fudgy, thick icing on top, decorated with crunchy pearls of chocolate. They are not unlike the ones used on the Macaroon Cupcake at Art of Animation Resort’s Landscape of Flavors.

I love the look of the shimmering chocolate pearls on the confection against the dark chocolate and provided a bit of a crunch to the soft frosting. And that frosting is most certainly thick! In addition to the cupcake are a white chocolate pirate head coin, key, and chocolate curls.

The cake was standard chocolate, but was moist and not too sweet. Paired with the much sweeter icing, the two balanced each other out.

Here is a look at the remainder of the sides to the treasure chest.

The cupcake was decent and Matt and I both enjoyed it. The size was perfect for us to split for just a few bites of sweetness. The cupcake alone would be worth ordering on its own, without the treasure chest boosting the price. Still, the few extra pieces of chocolate were nice touches in addition to the chest. It’s a great snack and fun souvenir in one, both for kids young and, well, not so young. ;)

Have you ordered the Treasure Chest with Chocolate Cupcake for yourself or the kids in your life? How fair do you think the price tag is for the treat? Let us know what you think!
