Chocolate Beer Cupcake

When I spotted this cupcake this weekend at Capt. Cook’s at the Polynesian resort, I knew it was something I had to try: a Chocolate Beer Cupcake!

The cupcake is topped with chocolate covered pretzels, which Matt and I tried after I bought it. They tasted a bit stale too me, and slightly chewy, but that was possibly due to them sitting in frosting and taking on some of the moisture.

I brought the cupcake home and set it in the fridge so the frosting could firm up a bit. It had a slight beer taste to it, but otherwise wasn’t too interesting. The cake portion tasted like plain chocolate cake, and somewhat bland at that.

It’s certainly an interesting cupcake concept, but it wasn’t the best I’ve tried on property. They also were serving a PB&J variety which sounds like it would probably taste better. I didn’t see any Lemon Ginger Cupcakes, but the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cupcake was still available if you need a cupcake fix.

If you’ve tried the Choc0late Beer Cupcake, let us know what you thought!

  1. I’m so sad that this isn’t a hit. I love the sound of it, and I’m actually makign James a guiness chocolate pie with pretzel crust for his birthday, and if I can do it — these Disney bakers can make a good cupcake!

I’m always so saddened by the cupcakes at Disney because I feel like they aren’t moist enough. No one wants a dry cupcake with a load of frosting on top. Hopefully things will improve soon.

  2. The pie you’re making sounds delicious! When I saw the cupcake, I had to buy it for us to try. The cake wasn’t the most moist I’ve had at Disney, but it just seemed a bit “blah” in flavor for chocolate cake. It’s still in the fridge from the other day and will likely get eaten, so at least it wasn’t bad that I felt the need to toss it. There is certainly room for improvement!

  3. I’m sad that they seem to have stopped adding filling to their cupcakes. It would have helped the cake in this instance surely! I think it’s DIsney’s way of cutting back on expenses (in the aggregate I’m sure adding filling to millions of cupcakes costs $$$), but it made them SO much more special and appealing.

  4. I agree. I’m not a big cupcake person, but the filling made them a bit more special, especially when it provided and extra complimentary flavor or texture. Some still have fillings, though!
