Joy of Tea: Curry Chicken Pockets

Joy of Tea in Epcot’s China pavilion is a great spot for a light, inexpensive snack. Here, you can find Pork & Vegetable Egg Rolls, Chinese BBQ Pork Buns, and Chicken Curry Pockets. Try them each on their own, or order the Lucky Combo, which comes with each item as well as a soda and ice cream for just under $10.

We’ve enjoyed the BBQ Pork Buns in the past, but this time around, I wanted to try the Chicken Curry Pockets, which I’ve never had before.

For $3.99, you receive an order of two pockets. Each has layers of flaky phyllo dough topped with sesame seeds and filled with flavorful chicken curry.

Matt is not a fan of the flavors in curry, and felt the dough was greasy on the palate. I experienced neither of this, and really enjoyed these pockets. The chicken was moist, and the flavors were bold without being overbearing.

If you’re a fan of curry, definitely give these a try. They are a snack credit on the Dining Plan, and a decent price for a snack if paying cash. I know Matt would rather have egg rolls or pork buns, but I’m glad I opted for something new to try.

Have you tried the Curry Chicken Pockets or other snack options from Joy of Tea?

  1. Yum! I haven’t tried but I love anything curry! Do you think they’ll have this item for the next several months? Or is this more seasonal?

  2. I tried the Chicken Curry Pockets on out most recent vacation and really enjoyed them! I thought they were better than anything China’s Food & Wine booth had to offer. It’s nice that Joy of Tea provides such tasty snacks, because I sincerely doubt we’ll ever take the time to dine at Nine Dragons.

  3. Ricardo – I don’t think they’re going anywhere. They’ve been on the menu for some time now!

Melissa – We loved China’s Mongolian Beef and the Mango Tapioca Pudding at F&W, but for a year-round option, the items at Joy of Tea are great! And while Nine Dragons is good, if you don’t want to spend vacation time sitting for a long, this is a much better option. Quick, delicious, and inexpensive!

  4. They don’t look greasy at all from the photos :) .
I really wish this place was ANYWHERE near me!
I don’t think a day would go by that I wouldn’t pop there!
Thank you for the hunger! -Pepper

  5. I thought it was pretty good when my friends and I tried it in October. The dough was more flaky than I was used to (I make these with pie dough so it’s more like a hand pie) and we usually use beef and a little stronger (spicier) curry. But overall not bad and a decent snack. I did try the duck drink (can’t remember the name lol) and found it nice and refreshing with the curry puffs.

  6. PepperBento – They weren’t greasy at all to me! I wonder if maybe Matt had an odd bite.

Cherry – Was the drink you had Tipsy Ducks in Love? Sans bourbon perhaps? ;)

  7. I love these things! They are one of my favorite grab & go snacks while doing the “stroll around the lake”. I’ve never found them greasy, but I could see it happening if they cooled down too much before munching. I also like the egg rolls, but the BBQ buns are only a meh for me. Looking forward to grabing a curry pocket this weekend.

  8. Jennifer – I like all three items. :) I need to order the sampler next time to partake in some ice cream as well!

  9. LOL Sarah. Yup that’s it. Definitely sans bourbon. Really liked the drink and found the coffee didn’t overwhelm the tea flavor.

  10. I’ve heard good things about it! I’ll have to try it sometime. :)
