Some time ago on a previous Disney cruise, my aunt ordered The Tropical Depression, which is a cocktail of Light Rum, Vodka, Gin, Blue Curaçao, Grenadine, Sprite, and a splash of Sweet and Sour. I knew it was a strong drink based on experience, but recalled it still being quite good. I decided to order one during a day at sea to enjoy poolside. The bartender mentioned he “made it good.”
I loved the purple color, as when my aunt ordered it, she requested it without grenadine, leaving it a vibrant blue color.
Tropical Depression without Grenadine
My drink was mixed, and all I could taste was the alcohol. Primarily gin. There was no way I was going to be able to drink the concoction, so I headed over to one of the soda stations to see if I could perform a miracle on the drink. I grabbed two smaller cups, split the drink between them, and topped off with more Sprite, hoping the lemon-lime and sugar might soften the blow being delivered. I brought the two cups back to my lounge chair, and Matt and I both sampled. Nope, still not having it. At that point, I just decided to cut my losses and grab a beer from the bucket.
My question to you is, have you ever had this “problem” on property or DCL? I mean, thanks for “making it good,” but if it’s undrinkable, what’s the point? It’s not something that typically happens (Matt’s ordered doubles on the rocks that look like singles), and I’m sure I could have swapped it out for something different had I asked. I was just being lazy and cut my losses. How have your mixed drink experiences been? Did you speak up to remedy/save the cocktail? Let us know!

yucky! That doesn’t sound good at all…
It wasn’t.
I know it’s a strong drink, but this one was a bit ridiculous! Matt kept referring to it as jet fuel, because it pretty much was!
Oh, man, mostly gin without any softening tonic? Rough stuff. But thanks for making me think about jynnan tonnyx. Copious amounts of Douglas Adams, that’s what I prescribe!
Yeah, this stuff was rough! I probably would have been fine with a heavy hand of rum or vodka, but gin? Ouch!
Im not sure I ever had a “undrinkable” cocktail. Just grin, bare it and file it for future reference.. I may have taken it back tho and said something.
I think if I had been sitting at the bar, I would have said something, but I was on “Island Time” on the cruise, so grabbing a beer from the bucket sounded a lot more efficient at the time.
