The New Lava Lounge at Rainforest Cafe

The newest addition to Downtown Disney can be found over at the Rainforest Cafe. An outdoor bar and cozy dining area, the Lava Lounge, is now open. We decided to swing by and check it out and share a few pics with you!

The entrance is themed like a cave entering the side of the volcano.

Lava glows inside the hallway.

The bar seating features two TVs mounted on more glowing lava.

The remainder of the narrow space features high top tables and a few standard height tables.

This fun menu has liquid “lava” inside.

For our beer, we ordered the Lava Red, which we were told is brewed especially for Lava Lounge (*ahem Safari Amber*). But this “red” wasn’t very good. Shame on us for ordering without requesting a sample first. It got worse as it became warmer, and we left behind a couple of wounded soldiers.

We also decided to order a snack and went with the Polynesian Pot Stickers, described as seared pork pot stickers with refreshing and tangy soy-lime dipping sauce.

I’m typically not big on pot stickers as they always seem to have an overpowering ginger flavor for me, and taste antiseptic. These weren’t that extreme, but were about what I anticipated. The dipping sauce had a little bit of kick to it thanks to the red pepper flakes. I wouldn’t come here solely for the pot stickers, but if you are generally a fan of them, you’ll probably like these.

The coolest addition to the refurb is the erupting volcano. Be sure to head over to our Facebook page to view the video! I look forward to returning at night to see it in action again.

I like the new addition of the Lava Lounge at Rainforest Cafe. It’s nice to have some covered outdoor seating to enjoy a drink while visiting Downtown Disney. I’ll certainly be back, I just know which beer to avoid now. ;)

  1. Thanks for the update on this! I’m not really digging the menus that look like someone either spilled a Strawberry Daquari on them or someone has a massive head wound and has bled out in the place.

  2. They do look a bit wonky but they were neat for something different, at least! :)

  3. We saw the erupting volcano when we were at DTD last Friday afternoon – very cool. I would imagine it would be pretty impressive at night.

  4. Yeah, it looks like the entire lounge might look pretty neat on the water! :)

  5. This looks like a great spot to take a break from DTD! I’ll just make a note to stay away from the Lava Red ;)

  6. If you like beer (and you do), you’ll order something else. I asked Matt, “Is this just dyed Budweiser?”
