With tomorrow, June 15th, being National Lobster Day, I wanted to share with you what I’ve found to be pretty much the best lobster roll I’ve had on Disney property. I’m very picky when it comes to lobster rolls, and I attribute that to the ten (long) years I lived in Maine. There, I had access to some fantastic restaurants that served them perfectly, so when I moved to Florida, I was pleased two find two restaurants in the area that serve them spot on. Disney has served them during Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival, and they’re just not the way they “should” be, loaded with mayonnaise and vegetable fillers (although 2011′s version got much closer than in years past).
I had noticed the Lobster Roll on BoardWalk Bakery’s menu and saw it in the display case when the restaurant first opened. I thought it looked pretty good and vowed to return to try it. The sandwich is served with your choice of cucumber salad or a bag of chips. I ordered the cucumber salad, and my sandwich was prepared, wrapped and placed in a white to-go box. I went outside to grab a seat to hopefully enjoy *gasp* a lobster roll from Disney World.
Right away, it looked pretty darn good. The lobster meat is mixed with a buttered chive mayo, but it seemed like rather standard mayo to me, though there were bits of chive sprinkled throughout. This was a good thing. The lettuce was crisp and had been properly dried, so it wasn’t making everything else soggy.
