Cookes of Dublin’s Beef & Lamb Dublin Style Pie

I haven’t been to Cookes of Dublin at Downtown Disney in a while, primarily because it always seems to be an ordeal to place an order, and if you’re dining in, seating can get tight, even with outdoor tables and chairs available. I’ve stopped by in the past for one of the Battered Burger & Chips along with Onion Rings and Irish Vintage Cheddar and Bacon Dip, and have even grabbed their Sweet & Spicy Wings to go. One item that I had yet to try was one of their Dublin Style Pies. Available in Chicken and Field Mushroom or Beef and Lamb, they are baked fresh daily and subject to availability. I was fortunate enough to get the las available Beef and Lamb.

Riverside Mill: Muffuletta

We’ve had a few items from Riverside Mill at Port Orleans Riverside in the past. Often it’s been for something to snack on while seeing Yehaa Bob at River Roost. I’ve stopped in to try their Chipotle-Barbecue Cheeseburger as well, but I wanted to try a New Orleans specialty, the Muffulleta.

I’m a huge fan of Italian subs, so this sandwich takes some of the best elements and turns them into something a little bit different. The bread used is similar to focaccia, which I enjoy for its texture. A spread of olive salad is applied to the bread, and then is topped with (typically) Italian meats and cheeses. This particular version features salami, capicola, ham and provolone.

Cookes of Dublin’s Sweet & Spicy Wings

A few days ago, I posted a review on Wolfgang Puck Express’ Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, and mentioned that I ordered it to go. Not only was it packaged looking almost as nice as if it were being served in the restaurant, it arrived from the kitchen in approximately five minutes. Kudos to WPE! On the same day of my visit to Downtown Disney, I also stopped by Cookes of Dublin in Pleasure Island to give their Chicken Wings in Whiskey and Crushed Pepper Glaze a try. Matt & I had visited Cookes late last year to try a few of their items and the overall experience wasn’t fantastic, but neither of us were deterred from revisiting.

Since that visit, the Whiskey and Crushed Pepper Glaze I was so looking forward to has changed into Sweet & Spicy Chicken Wings, which are tossed in a Honey, Chili Flake Soy, & Ginger Sauce. The price remained steady at $9.95.

When I arrived, there were two separate guests in front of me placing orders. I’m sorry I don’t have a picture of the space, but to give you an idea of the small ordering area, another couple walking in behind me just made it in the door. The doors to this restaurant remain open, so despite the small dining area being air conditioned, it remains pretty hot. Despite being third in line, I waited a good 15 minutes to place my order. After I ordered my wings to go and paid, I was told it would be about 14 minutes for the wings to cook. *Sigh…* (Yes, I’m aware wings take longer than most “fast” items to cook…)

When the order arrived, I could feel it was pretty hefty. “Awesome,” I thought. “At least it feels like there are a decent amount of wings in here!” I walked back to my truck to sample one and opened up to this. Six wings served atop chips with some plasticware thrown on top. *Womp… womp… wooooooomp…* Now I believe the Whiskey version was served with chips, but the old menu didn’t indicate that they were. The most recent menu, shown towards the bottom of this post, does mention for its category “All served with chips.” I didn’t notice this until after reviewing my photos. :(

Dinner at Paradiso 37

My last visit to Paradiso 37 left Matt and me with a bad taste in our mouths thanks to an order of pretty weak nachos. I had been to the restaurant on a few occasions, and knew this was not typical of their food. When meeting up with my friend Shalon (Go Team Shake & Bake!) the other night, I was happy that she picked Paradiso 37 as our place to enjoy dinner. I wanted to have an experience like the delicious ones I’ve had in the past in hopes to get Matt to visit again.

First off, our waiter, Brad, was fantastic. He was upbeat and knowledgeable, and we threw him a curveball when he asked if we’d dined at the restaurant before. He’s so used to people saying, “No,” that he almost jumped right into his recommendations. We had a laugh and then he took our drink order. I went with a pint of the P37 Specialty Lager ($4.99), which was described as being similar to Yuengling, and it indeed was. Sorry – didn’t take a picture. It looked like this, sans chalice. And please forgive my photo quality, as I didn’t bring my real camera and had to work with the iPhone!

Shalon opted for a glass of the White Sangria. They had just made up a fresh batch, and Brad mentioned it’s made VERY well. If I recall, he said it had 6 bottles of white wine (I forget which variety), a few bottles of white rum, peach schnapps, and a jug of orange juice. Shalon thought it was great, and I think I might have to order it myself next time!

Cookes of Dublin

A while back, we attempted to eat at Cookes of Dublin to no avail. They were having kitchen issues and were closed. We still have wanted to try their Battered Burger and Chips, so we made the pilgrimage to give it a taste.
