Zebra Domes have long been a favorite of those who visit Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Boma restaurant. If you want to seek out just the dessert without the buffet, you can head down to The Mara to pick up a package of 5 for $3.69. Since Matt and I never had them, we stopped in to finally give them a try.
Zebra Domes consist of a thin layer of white cake, a dome of Amarula Liqueur mousse, coated in a white chocolate ganache with a dark chocolate ganache drizzle.
Amarula Liqueur is made from the fruit of the African Marula tree, and is described as having a fruity, caramel flavor. I found it to taste reminiscent of amaretto.
Matt and I both found the ganache to be a bit too sweet for us, so after each eating one, we actually peeled it from the mousse center. My favorite part was the mousse, while Matt really liked the cake on the bottom. The cake had a light dusting of sugar, which added subtle, sweet crunch to it.
Were they good? Yes, and we’d eat them again. We’re just not as fanatical about them as so many people seem to be. What are your thoughts on Zebra Domes?
