When it comes to breakfast options in Epcot’s Future World, your only option for something more than just pastries from a coffee kiosk is Sunshine Seasons (well, or a Starbucks breakfast sandwich in Fountainview). While those who just want a pastry or bagel, they have those as well, but if you’re looking for something more substantial and bit different than a Breakfast Platter (which you can also get here), I have to recommend the Breakfast Panini.
I first became aware of the Breakfast Panini a few years ago when Matt and I visited Sunshine Seasons with friends during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. Several of them ordered this as their breakfast option, and I’ll admit it looked pretty darn good. I had wanted to return and order it myself, but it slipped my mind until I was at Epcot taking pictures for a park menu update (coming soon! 😉 ).
The sandwich itself is quite simple: Eggs, Bacon, Roast Pork and Cheese, served on Focaccia, and with a side of Breakfast Potatoes. While only kept warm under a heat lamp on the display counter, everything tasted relatively fresh. Having arrived shortly after the park opened, this was very likely the case. The bread had a crisp crust with a really nice flavor from the herbs, the cheese was melty, and the eggs had a nice consistency. The smokiness of the bacon came through, and it retained a bit of crunch. The slices of roast pork added another flavor that stood on its own, and it didn’t get lost among the other elements.
The Breakfast Potatoes weren’t a standout, however, waning in texture and flavor from sitting under the heat lamp. They were a bit one note in flavor, lacking any salt or pepper (which could have been remedied myself with some packets). Texturally, they were cooked through, but a bit of snap on the skins would have been appreciated. The onions and peppers were a bit bland as well. Overall, they were edible, but they fell on the side of, “Meh.”
Here are the menus from the stations during my visit:
Apart from the Breakfast Potatoes, I recommend the Breakfast Panini. I’ve had several breakfast sandwiches around property, and this one stands out among them. Because I’m sure the overall success of this sandwich depends greatly on it not sitting under a heat lamp for a long period of time, you’ll want to head over to Sunshine Seasons earlier in the morning, or wait until you see a fresh sandwich arrive to the display. 🙂
