The other evening I was walking around Crescent Lake and made a stop by BoardWalk Bakery at the BoardWalk Inn to grab some items to bring home. While I do have a savory item on the schedule, I wanted to review their current Specialty Cupcake before it goes away. It’s very likely these fall-themed cupcakes will see a wintery, holiday replacement after Thanksgiving.
The cupcakes feature moist Vanilla Cake and are topped with a Pumpkin Spice Frosting. The frosting was very light when I bought it, like a thick whipped cream. It did later firm up in the fridge. The edges of the cake are decorated with walnuts and topped with a candy pumpkin.
Inside the cupcake was a pumpkin pie filling. Normally, I’m not big on the pumpkin spice/pumpkin pie flavor thing that everyone gets wrapped up in each fall, but I will say this was quite good. I gladly ate several bites before letting Matt enjoy the rest. He loves these flavors, and I believe they were his first taste of them this year, too!
Here are some more sweets that were available in the display cases on my visit – you can click for larger images. You can see the Mickey Oreo Cupcake has been revamped.

Even for not being a big pumpkin fan, I definitely enjoyed this cupcake enough that I would order it again. The sweetness was well balanced and the flavors had just enough spice that it didn’t taste overbearing. Matt was easily a fan as well, and I think it just got him more excited for Thanksgiving. If you’re at BoardWalk, I recommend stopping by for one.
