Goofy’s Candy Co. Sour Candy Buttons

When I was a kid, I always liked candy buttons. They were just plain colored sugar that never peeled completely away from the paper, leaving small remnants of the stuff to be eaten along with the candy. They apparently were flavored, with pink being cherry, blue being line, and lemon being yellow. I don’t know if this has always been this way, or if it was change after the original company’s acquisition by Necco, but I vaguely remember them not being much more that just sweet.

Goofy’s Candy Co. changes the game with the nostalgic treat, creating four sour flavors for their Sour Candy Buttons: Sour Green Apple, Sour Lemon, Sour Blue Raspberry, and Sour Strawberry.

A look at the nutrition and ingredients (though you really might not want to look at the ingredients):

Apart from their size, the major difference between these and the candy of our childhood releases completely from the paper.

The flavors here are definitely more noticeable that the ones we grew up with, too. Sour Green Apple was my least favorite of the bunch, and Sour Lemon had the most “natural” flavor of them. The Sour Strawberry was decent, but the Sour Blue Raspberry was my top pick. None of them were overly tart though.

As their own treat, they’re just okay. They don’t bring back the nostalgia of the original candy once you start eating them. I think those who never had the original candy might appreciate these more. As for me, I’ll stick to other items for a sugar fix.

Have you tried the Sour Candy Buttons? What do you think of them?
