Dinner at The Turf Club Bar and Grill

Last week, Matt and I headed to The Turf Club Bar and Grill at Saratoga Springs for a mid-week dinner. His mom was in town for work, so we met up with her for the meal. Originally, I was not going to take photos as I didn’t want to be rude (if it was just Matt and me, I’d have just been rude 😉 ). Therefore, I do not have photos of the rolls (which were “Disney standard,” butter pats sprinkled with pink Hawaiian salt, or menu. However, when the entrees came out, Matt suggested I take photos, so I obliged.

For his dinner, Matt ordered the Prime Rib, which came with Mashed Potatoes, Broccolini, and Cherry-Peppercorn Sauce. Her requested the rarest piece available. I tried a bite and the piece I had was pretty good and tender, but he noted that much of the fat wasn’t very well-rendered, and that some of the thinner portions of the meat were dry. He also wish it was served with jus instead of the Cherry-Peppercorn Sauce, which he didn’t use. I tasted it and thought it was good in its own right. He enjoyed the Mashed Potatoes, and, naturally, didn’t touch the Broccolini, which ended up with my leftovers for lunch.

His mom ordered the Grilled Salmon with Teriyaki Glaze. According to the Disney website (as of this posting) the dish is served with Cilantro Jasmine Rice with Green Peas. Since I didn’t get a menu pic to verify, it seems this has changed to plain steamed Jasmine Rice and likely Seasonal Vegetables. She was very happy with her dish.

I ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops cooked rare. The chops are served with Roasted Fingerling Potatoes and Sautéed Spinach dressed with a Bacon, Shallot, and Mustard Vinaigrette.

As you can see, the chops were definitely cooked rare. The sauce with which they were served added some saltiness to the bites of lamb. I ended up bringing one home as I was getting full after the first, along with the greens.

The Sautéed Spinach with Bacon, Shallot, and Mustard Vinaigrette was delicious. Though a bit heavily dressed, I could have just eaten a bowl of this. The spinach retained it brightness in flavor, and it had a nice salt level and smokiness from the bacon. The was also a little bite from the shallot and mustard.

The Roasted Fingerling Potatoes were well-cooked and also tossed with the spinach and its vinaigrette, and those flavors helped elevate these from plain, roasted potatoes.

Overall, we had a nice dinner with very good service. Matt’s mom enjoyed her meal, and Matt was mostly happy with his, noting it was fine, but he’s had better. I enjoyed every aspect of my dish, from the properly-cooked lamb to the flavorful greens. Matt was considering the lamb as well, and I think he wished he’d ordered it instead. Maybe next time. 😉

Have you been to The Turf Club Bar and Grill? What did you order and what did you think?

  1. I’ve had drinks in the lounge, but I still have not been to Turf Club for a meal! It’s one of the last table-service restaurants I have to cross off my list (aside from the new Disney Springs eateries, of course). I really should have done lunch there while it was still offered. I suspect it was an all-too hidden gem.

  2. I wish they were still open for lunch. I went a few years back when it was offered. The last time Matt and I went to dinner there, we stuck to sampling several apps. I do completely understand wanting to check out all the new Disney Springs eateries, though!

  3. It’s been several years since my friend and I ate here but we thought it was quite good. I remember sharing a mussels appetizer and it was large enough that really we could have done another app and been completely full. I think I had the lamb and she had a steak and we didn’t even come anywhere near finishing them and had to walk a bit afterwards to get the food to settle. LOL.

  4. I’ve read mixed reviews on the restaurant, and it seems the entrees fare better than the apps. But at the same time, I’ve had very good apps there. The lamb is great – I recall the waitress saying it was one of their signatures.
