When Harambe Market opened a few months ago, there was an item on the menu that sounded interesting and I wanted to try, but we were sampling so many other foods, we knew we wouldn’t have any room: the African Milk Tart. You can also find them at the Creature Comforts Starbucks, which is where I picked mine up.
It is described as Coconut Custard in a Chocolate Shell dusted with Sugar and Five Spice Powder, drizzled with Dark Chocolate Ganache. If you’ve been reading the blog a while, you are probably aware that I’m not big on sweets or chocolate, but the promise of coconut certainly gets my attention.
The custard itself was creamy with plenty of coconut mixed throughout. It was far from being overly sweet, which made me very happy. The cool custard in the heat of the afternoon was refreshing.
The chocolate crust provided a nice balance in flavored alongside the custard, and the five spice powder gavel he dessert a bit of an earthy nuance.
Despite my typical aversion to desserts, this is one I won’t shy away from. Just enough sweetness, interesting and complimentary flavored, and not too heavy, the African Milk Tart is a win in my book.
