Lunch at The BOATHOUSE

Over the weekend, Matt and I grabbed lunch with my mom and aunt over at The BOATHOUSE at Disney Springs. And with that sentence, I’m now just going to call it The Boathouse. Originally, I wasn’t planning on doing a post and just enjoy the meal, but Matt said a few snaps wouldn’t hurt, so that’s what these pictures are – quick snaps. And not even of everything. Matt and I like trying calamari when we see it on menus, and they do a good job here. I didn’t really care for the sauce, but Matt liked it. There wasn’t really any heat to the calamari itself, but I liked the added fried green onions and Serrano chilies. It’s also pricey for an appetizer at $18 (though everything is pricey here being considered “Signature Dining”), but I felt it was a large portion with plenty to share. Alone it could be a meal, but two shared appetizers for variety would certainly work.

For his entree, Matt ordered the Steak Sandwich. It’s currently (as of this post) not listed on the Disney menu website, but it is on The Boathouse’s official website. I’m going to think that the official website will/is updated more frequently than Disney’s, so I recommend checking both when making your plans. Anyway, the Steak Sandwich features Arugula, Grilled Beefsteak, Tomato, BOATHOUSE Steak Sauce on Toasted Ciabatta and is served with Fries. Matt had already dug in at this point – there is a second half to this sandwich. You can see some of the steak that fell out. 🙂

Lunch at The BOATHOUSE

Disney Springs’ newest resident opened last Monday – The BOATHOUSE. The restaurant is described as being upscale, and, based on prices, aims to be that way. The menu (photos later in the post) is slightly different than what’s on Disney’s website. I noticed because one of the items I had been contemplating – the Sirloin Steak Salad – was absent. Also, the Grilled Tacos, which offered a choice of Steak, Fish, or Mushroom, turned into Grilled Flroida Mahi Tacos. Regardless, let’s take a look!

The restaurant boasts several Amphicars, which, for $125, provides you with a captain and up to three guests for a 20 minutes ride around the lake. Personally, that’s a bit steep, but when Matt spotted a tank version, that trip might very well be in our future. How much to mod my Jeep to do this?

The restaurant space is massive, with plenty of interior bar seating. There is also a bar outside, and, in retrospect, I wish we had sat out there. The weather was nice, but I will say the inside bar/restaurant space is LOUD. Music was playing over the sound system, and eventually there was a live musician singing and playing guitar, but we still were constantly having to repeat ourselves when we tried to converse. Of the two TVs we could see where we sat, our viewing options, sans sound, were a soccer match and Univision – the first show featured an infomercial for some blender, and then it was a telenovela.

Matt had one item on his mind when we got there. Coconut Frog Legs. (Sorry, Prince Naveen. Not Sorry.) We’ve been wanting to try frog legs for so long, but we seemingly never see them on the menu anywhere here in Central Florida.

The BOATHOUSE Opens Today

Downtown Disney/Disney Springs’ newest restaurant, The BOATHOUSE, opens today, according to the Disney Parks Blog. Super awkward to type that name. The restaurant boasts waterfront views and has a total of 600 seats – 400 indoors and 200 outdoors. The menu features seafood, steaks, cocktails and wine.

Downtown Disney/Disney Springs Update

The Disney Parks Blog has released some images and information regarding Downtown Disney’s transformation into Disney Springs. First, the “Springs Bottling Co.” sign has been installed above the space that will house Morimoto Asia and has a turn-of-the-century feel. You can watch a time-lapse video of the installation here. Waterview Stage, adjacent to the site of The BOATHOUSE, is offering nightly entertainment (information on showtimes can be found in the Times Guide at Downtown Disney).

Later this month, the West Side will see the opening of the Food Trucks at Exposition Park. This will act as a permanent home for the trucks. Additional seating and shaded areas will also be available for diners.

Morimoto Asia and The BOATHOUSE Coming to Disney Springs

With all the refurbishment action continuing at Downtown Disney to transform it into Disney Springs, I happy to finally hear some official news of two new restaurants coming to the area (and neither are Italian! 😉 )! First up, I’m especially excited to hear that Morimoto Asia is slated to open in Summer 2015.

According to the press release, Chef Masaharu Morimoto (of Iron Chef and Iron Chef America fame) is working with Patina Restaurant Group (their work includes Tutto Italia Ristorante and Via Napoli at Epcot) to establish the concept. The restaurant will be located in an area called The Landing, which is in the heart of Disney Springs. This will be the Japanese master chef’s first pan-Asian dining experience.

The space will boast a 36-foot tall, two-story layout including open terraces, grand hall, private rooms, long bar, cocktail lounge, waterside seating and more. STUDIO V Architecture is designing the space.

Nick Valenti, restaurateur and CEO of Patina Restaurant Group, stated, “We are delighted to work with Morimoto to create this one of a kind restaurant, which will be a spectacular dining destination at the new Disney Springs.” Chef Morimoto noted, “I’m very excited to bring this new concept to Disney, something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a wonderful chance to share some of my favorite foods from across the Asian continent.”
